There's no secret recipe for mastering translation. All you need to do is to master your mother tongue (as much as you can) through reading good writings, writing and listening; master a foreign language (as mush as you can), including complex structures, through reading and grammar books; and learn step-by-step the "transfer strategy and techniques" through translating texts of interest and comparing your renderings with good translations. An example of good translations is the UN documents. Remember that good translation is about good understanding and writing skills. Learn, by practice, how to express yourself first, as those who can express themselves well will most likely be able to express others' ideas.
